Week 1 in Beijing

A week and a half ago I touched down at Beijing Capital Airport, ready for an exciting new experience. I landed at 2am, got transferred to the Jiuxian Apartments had a few hours of sleep before the Friday 9am orientation with CRCC.

My first weekend in Beijing included seeing Giant Pandas at the Beijing zoo, lighting incense at the Lama Temple, getting a workout by climbing the steps of the Drum and Bell Towers and exploring the beautiful Beihei Park. It was a very busy first weekend in a very new, very different city.

After the adventurous weekend it was time to get started with work at LNP China, a small company offering creative solutions for foreign companies looking to expand into China. LNP have clients from the US, UK and Europe and I was assigned an interesting project to initiate LNP’s movement into the Australian market during my month in Beijing. This was to be done by creating relationships within the Australian-Chinese business community in Beijing, searching for Australian business leads and researching the most lucrative industries for SME’s moving into China from Australia. This is a very fulfilling and interesting project that is instrumental to my development as an international business person.

Week nights consisted of dinners ranging from Chinese banquets with delicious traditional Peking Duck to Zinger burgers at KFC. They were also an opportunity to get to know the other interns in the program who are a really great, diverse group of young people.

My second weekend in Beijing consisted of climbing the Great Wall, exploring the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square and hanging out at the Summer Palace. In addition, getting a taste of Beijing’s weekend night life on Sanlitun Bar Street made it another busy, yet immensely enjoyable weekend. Attached are a few of my favourite photos of the trip so far.
